five-tough0questions
For schools, churches and nonprofits, the search is always on for the next great fundraiser. A recent survey by EventBrite revealed that the top favorite events are ones focused on food or drink. Here are some creative ideas of how you can host events that do just that:
  • Eating Contest – There’s nothing like an appetite for competition. See who can earn bragging rights for eating the most hot dogs in one minute. This is an event that you can repeat year after year to see who can break the record.
  • Gift Baskets – Create themed baskets, such as movie night, ballpark or carnival and include foods like popcorn and cotton candy. You can either sell raffle tickets (which can be done over a period of time or exclusively at the event) or hold a silent auction and have guests bid for each basket.
  • Food Trucks – Partner with a local food truck that’s willing to donate a percentage of the proceeds to your organization. Or create your own food truck themed event by decorating booths dedicated to different food types and have individuals donate menu items. There can even be a contest for which booth raises the most money.
  • Goofy Sports Tournaments – Set up a relay race with silly obstacles, a hula-hooping marathon, a water balloon toss challenge and other games that are fun for all ages. Make your concession stand goofy too with a mix of colored popcorn, sour snow cones and silly straws for drinks.
  • Parent’s Night Out – Cater to the kids and host a fun-filled Hollywood event complete with the red carpet treatment. Take photos in front of a movie star backdrop with props like oversized sunglasses and faux fur drapes. And what movie night would be complete without freshly popped popcorn?
